Flow liquefaction potential of loose sand: stress path envelope and energy-based evaluation

Flow liquefaction, which is characterized by sudden collapse following the unstable behavior of saturated loose sand, may lead to most catastrophic consequence all liquefaction-related phenomena. This note presents a systematic experimental investigation into flow liquefaction potential sand under various initial and cyclic shear conditions. The responses are compared with monotonic results an identical testing condition. It found that effective stress path test appears envelop its corresponding test. energy-based evaluation indicates accumulative dissipated energy uniquely correlated not only pore pressure axial strain induced in but also degraded stiffness during loading. Furthermore, capacity for triggering be intimately related resistance sand; this signifies applicability using strength data available conventional analysis.
